Introduction
Grand Exchange Tax
RuneScape has added a 1% tax on every sale that takes place on the Grand Exchange. Any item that is sold through the G.E system will be subjected to the tax. It will be deducted from the starting sale price. The tax is basically applied on a per-item basis. For instance, if you’re selling multiple items, the tax will be applied depending on every item sold, instead of the total amount received.
The interface of the Grand Exchange has also been changed to show the pay you’ll be paying on every item. You can also track the amount while viewing the offers of any sale. In simpler words, if you’re a seller, you’ll always be able to view it at the bottom line of the opened interface.
Any item that is sold under 100 GP will not be taxed, so they won’t likely be displayed on the bottom line of the interface. Any item that is sold for over 4,999,999,999 GP will have a capped tax of 5,000,000 GP shown on the interface.
The player-to-player trade menus have also been updated. The ‘Accept’ button on the interface is prevented from being pushed for a few seconds after you change/switch the items in the trade. It gives both parties a chance to spot if they’re being scammed.
Here’s a list of items that are exempted from the tax system. Most of them are total that are used and often bought by newcomers –
Chisel, Dibber, Gardening Trowel, Glassblowing Pipe, Hammer, Needle, Pestle and Mortar, Rake, Saw, Secateurs, Shears, Spade, and Watering Can (0). Bonds are also exempted from the tax system as there is already a fee used to convert the item from non-tradeable to tradeable.
Item Sink
The Item Sink system developed by RuneScape helps with inflation through the tax collected from the sales to buy expensive items from the seller. Once the trade is successfully completed, the items are then deleted.
When a taxed trade has taken place at the Grand Exchange, the taxes paid are consigned to a coffer. An automated system then uses those stored funds to purchase various items chosen by the RuneScape team. The system buys the items based on the EST quantity that is entering the game on a daily basis. It’s basically the amount the owner would like to reduce so that the eco remains stable.
If the coffer’s stored funds are below the item’s value, the system won’t interfere, and the sale offer is created as normal. If the funds hit the quote for an item, the system doesn’t interfere again because it doesn’t want to create supply issues. So, the sale offer is created as normal again. However, if the coffer’s funds are enough and the daily quote hasn’t hit yet, the system pays the seller the amount for the item and then removes it from the game.
Here are some of the items that would benefit from a reduced supply –
Abyssal Bludgeon, Arcane & Spectral Shields, Armadyl Armour, Bandos Armour, Dark Bow, Dinh's Bulwark, Elder Maul, God Swords (Armadyl, Bandos, Saradomin, Zamorak), Kodai Insignia, Kraken Tentacle, Nightmare Staff and Orbs (Eldritch, Harmonised, Volatile), Occult Necklace, Prayer Reward Scrolls (Arcane, Dexterous, Torn), Saradomin Sword, Scythe of Vitur, Smoke Battlestaff, Toxic Blowpipe, Trident of the Seas, Twisted Bow, and Zamorakian Spear.
PVP Changes
For those who are unfamiliar with PVP; when you attack a player, you receive a PK Skull Master on your head that lasts for about 30 minutes. It’s possible to get into a fight within the timeframe of 29 minutes and 30 seconds to lose the skull. It means that while there’s a chance for you to lose your skull, there’s also a chance that your opponent received it. Thus, minimizing your own risk and adding it to theirs.
This needed to be fixed. So, the RuneScape team has changed it to ‘PVP Skulls no longer being timed out during PVP combat.’
Besides that, there’s also the issue of Skull Tricking that they’ve been addressing. It takes place in different forms, but the end result is always the same – tick an opponent into attacking another player and gaining a skull. The week’s update has a new setting in the ‘Control Setting’ interface. It restricts attacking a player if the action results in you being skulled.
There are also some new safe areas that have been added in the PVP words to tackle luring –
Ape Atoll Bank area, Barbarian Outpost, Blast Mine Bank Chests, Duel Arena entrance, Fossil Island - North Island Bank, Soul Wars Lobby, The Kourend Castle building (Every Floor), Volcanic Mine Bank area, Xeric’s Glade - Grape Vines.
