Diablo 4 is lazy

Diablo 4 is lazy. Start with balance, end with quality of life.

Just a few examples:

 

-Types of Weapons

They no longer exist, unlike we knew in Diablo 2 or we knew in other ARPGs.


There are exactly 2 different types of ranged weapons in the game, the bow and the crossbow. There is no heavy crossbow, no long bow, no short bow, only one long-range damage bow and one mid-range damage crossbow.


-Open world

It exists, but it is announced as the renewal of the series. This is not the case. It's just a place you farm when Hell Tides is up, or a World Boss. The rest of the time is annoying as you have to travel from A to B for long distances, where B is your nightmare dungeon.


And don't get me wrong. I don't mind crossing, there is a certain distance to cross to reach the destination. But in Diablo IV, it was boring. There is no challenge, there is nothing to discover or discover (because there is not enough variety in what you can actually 'discover'). Enemies aren't hard to kill, the monster density is ridiculously low, so raising them is the worst option.


And if that's still not enough, for motivation to rush to the next location, you will also get stones thrown your way without being difficult or exciting, like obstacles. It is lazy and unimaginative, boring and uncreative. They play it safe with the least "new stuff" because it works like a base, but that base gets boring after a day or two. 


-Dynamic scaling

It seems to me that they don't want to put much effort into balancing. For this reason, the game is the same throughout T1 to T4, plus the difficulty minus 10%. It never seemed like a real challenge. Everything seems superficial and lazy. The less risk it takes to ensure that more people love it and play it and feel like they're going somewhere. But now there is only depth, not complexity. And with that, there is no soul and no character. It all sounds generic. Like game design 101. Like, take inspiration and inspiration from various games, but instead of actually saving all the abilities and unlocking the potential of System A, they just add absolute minimum. Like craftsmanship. Like the potions system.


And that's just what's in the game. I didn't mention what they promised or presented, like runes or normal, magical and rare items are as viable as legendary items (yes, rare items are). For example, skills change image based on rank, while many people question its existence. Or is it just such a small difference that it's hard to tell? If so, why even do it at all. Why waste resources and time on it. For example, skills with dynamic damage box - by the way, already exist in Diablo 2 to some extent. Again, resources and time don't really affect the player's experience as it doesn't make a difference. You may notice it subconsciously, but is it really worth the effort? Especially considering that QoL is lacking, as are the other things I mentioned.


That's all my opinion. That's how I see games and games and development. You may disagree with her or you may agree with her. Don't be lazy like Blizzard and call me a hater.
